EU Food Safety Project: Steering Committee Meeting Reviews Progress And Next Steps

The 18th Steering Committee Meeting of the EU Food Safety Project was successfully held, bringing together key stakeholders to review overall progress and discuss priorities for the upcoming implementation period.

The meeting focused on ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety and animal health systems, including capacity building, technical assistance to food business operators, and continued work under the Halloumi/Hellim PDO scheme. The participants reviewed the progress in training activities, farm and food business assessments, hygiene and traceability practices, and sampling and monitoring activities.

Discussions also covered the development of frameworks and procedures supporting coordinated practices involving food safety and animal health. Updates were shared on activities related to farms, food of non-animal origin, laboratory capacity, and awareness-raising actions.

Looking ahead, the project will continue to prioritise training, on-site support, collaboration with stakeholders, and initiatives aimed at strengthening preparedness, biosecurity, and effective implementation of food safety requirements.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to sustained cooperation and continued progress towards resilient, effective, and harmonised food safety practices.
