Food Safety: Key Achievements of the EU Food Safety Project (EU FSP)

The EU Food Safety Project has significantly improved food safety practices in the Turkish Cypriot community over the past three years.

  • By educating Turkish Cypriot farmers and food business operators on EU food safety standards, the project has enabled them to adopt safer practices in their productions.
  • A specific focus of the project was PDO Halloumi/Hellim production - with the support of the project 3 dairy factories are now certified by Bureau Veritas for PDO production and 21 dairy farms received the attestation for production of PDO eligible milk.
  • Local administrative bodies and ‘laboratories’ have been strengthened, ensuring that establishments implement the EU-aligned safety measures effectively.
  • With the strengthened control of the local bodies, the targeted operators can now implement the safety standards and ensure the traceability of their products, contributing to the long-term improvement of food safety in the Turkish Cypriot community.
