During the current implementation period (05/2024 – 05/2027), the EU FSP has broadened its scope of assessment to include food of non-animal origin. This includes evaluating the roles and responsibilities for food safety, as well as enhancing communication and coordination among TCc stakeholders.
While the project continues to focus on milk, the milk channelling system, and dairy products—particularly PDO Halloumi/Hellim—it has taken a significant step forward by extending technical assistance to cover processed non-animal origin foods.
Building on the progress made during the previous implementation period (05/2021 – 05/ 2024), when gaps in the existing food safety system for food of animal origin were identified, the project is now working to align both the controls and the production of plant origin food with the EU standards regarding food safety and general hygiene requirements.
To support this expanded focus, EU FSP experts are assessing current practices, communication pathways, resources, and controls. The goal is to provide TCc stakeholders with clearer responsibilities, improved coordination and monitoring systems and to improve the knowledge and procedures of food business operators.
A comprehensive roadmap has been developed to guide this process—streamlining procedures, strengthening capacity, and ensuring that controls are effectively implemented according to the general standards. This effort paves the way for safer food and stronger cooperation across all sectors involved in food safety.
👉 Stay tuned for further updates as the project progresses—more developments are on the way!
